Land for Adoption

The work of Seattle-based artist Vaugh Bell is informed by an ever-expanding array of ideas and histories. She is interested in discussions of sustainability, property rights, public space, and ecological systems within a range of contemporary art practices. Land for Adoption presents an opportunity for urban dwellers to cultivate a relationship with a piece of land. Through adoption, not purchase, they become owners of a small piece of Sonoran desert land (soil with a plant native to the area). This land is their responsibility to tend, plant, and care for as they see fit. Those who wish to adopt a piece of land sign adoption forms stating their intent and commitment to the care of the land.

Vaughn can be found on the Soleri Plaza periodically thoughout the 4-day Canal Convergence event for this participatory project.
