The internationally-recognized artists and performers of Canal Convergence 2017 give talks about how they got their start in the art world, and their careers and artworks. All talks take place at the Casablanca Roof Top Lounge. Tickets are $10, and are available at the Casablanca Roof Top Lounge 30 min. prior to each artist talk.

Lee Yun Qin - Thursday, February 23, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Canal Convergence Installation: Moonflower
Lee Yun Qin graduated in 2004 from the National University of Singapore with a degree in industrial design. Yun has been working for corporations such as Asus and Procter & Gamble where she develops designs for electronics and consumer goods. With her designs and art installations, Yun hopes to create delightful experiences that people hold dear to their hearts. Moonflower is Yun’s first public art installation.
Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena - Thursday, February 23, 7:30-8:30 p.m.
Canal Convergence Installation: Los Trompos
Esrawe is the founder of the cross-disciplinary design firm Esrawe Studio that develops furniture and interior design solutions for commercial spaces. Cadena is owner and creative director of CADENA+ASOC. CONCEPT DESIGN, which combines art, science, architecture and industrial design to generate award-winning works. Esrawe and Cadena brought their design firms together to form E + C, and through their collaboration of style and engineering, created Los Trompos.
Pascal Rioult of RIOULT Dance NY - Friday, February 24, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Canal Convergence performance: Along the Canal, a Dance among the Art
Pascal Rioult founded the modern dance company RIOULT Dance NY in 1994. As the primary choreographer and music composer for RIOULT since its inception, Pascal is committed to communicating the essence and intensity of his artistic vision; to sustaining its company of dancers; to educating and expanding audiences for modern dance at home and through touring, nationally and internationally.
Anne-Marie Paquette of CS Design - Friday, February 24, 7:30-8:30 p.m.
Canal Convergence Installation: IMPULSE
Canada-based CS Design was formed in 2008 to fill a need for local lighting design consultation in the field of architecture. Approaching lighting design from the perspective of the architect, CS Design seeks a simple and integrated approach to elevate architectural designs. Paquette is a member of the design team that collaborated with Lateral Office, EGP Group and Mitchell Akiyama to create IMPULSE.
Yelena Filipchuk - Saturday, February 25, 7:30-8:30 p.m.
Canal Convergence installation: HYBYCOZO
Yelena Filipchuk is an environmental scientist by trade and has spent years studying natural patterns and bio-mimicry at UC Berkeley. She looks for scientific, mathematical, historical, and cultural origins for aesthetically beautiful forms. After working at Google for 5 years, Filipchuk chose to pursue the creation of public sculpture and installation art after exhibiting her first large scale installation with Serge Beaulieu in 2014 titled HYBYCOZO. Her work utilizes metal working techniques and advanced manufacturing technology like laser cutting, LED lighting, and mathematical objective relationships. Filipchuk’s installations have been displayed at music festivals, outdoor settings, science museums, and in civic locations nationally and internationally.
Tom Dekyvere - Sunday, February 26, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Canal Convergence Installation: Polygonum 2.0
Tom Dekyvere is an installation artist and sculptor who uses his artwork to explore the deeper layers of reality and mind. Utilizing a variety of materials such as LED lights, rope, and metal, Dekyvere’s series of public art installations examine the boundaries between nature and technology, man and robot, and living and non-living matter. Dekyvere has exhibited in Australia and throughout Europe. Polygonum 2.0 is the first installation Dekyvere has created for a site in the United States.
Foldhaus Artist Collective - Sunday, February 26, 7:30-8:30 p.m.
Canal Convergence Installation: Blumen Lumen
Foldhaus Artist Collective is made up of artists, engineers, and designers that all worked or currently work at the global design company, IDEO. The concept for Blumen Lumen was created by designer Joerg Student in 2013. After building a paper prototype, Joerg gathered a team of engineers and designers to help make it a reality. Blumen Lumen has been exhibited at art and light festivals across the U.S.
