City Improvement Project
The City’s objectives are to focus on the walking and bicycling environment on Thomas Road from 73rd Street to the crossing of the Indian Bend Wash just west of Hayden Road.

Artist
Stacy Levy in her projects explores making nature visible, even in the city. She looks for sites that give the opportunity to bring the patterns and processes of the natural world into the built environment.

Proposed Artwork: SWALE, a project for the Thomas Road Crossing at Indian Bend Wash
By focusing on the bridge crossing at Indian Bend Wash, the proposed artwork can give an experience to all modes of transportation, vehicular, bike and pedestrian, and become a landmark for the neighborhood. The artwork reflects more the vegetation of the irrigated and water-holding wash below, specifically the occurrence of gamma grass.  The 8’ to 14’ foot high sculptural grasses with seed pods create patterns of waves or flames, evoking the flows of the park below and the traffic above.
