Location

City of Scottsdale One Civic Center building, Atrium

7447 E. Indian School Road

Description

Completed: 1998

Media: aluminum tubing, dacron and ripstop nylon

Momentum can be found in the three-story atrium at One Civic Center. The sculptural installation incorporates curved aluminum tubing that supports varied lengths of nylon and dacron fabric. Its triangular fabric panels are sewn together and weighted at the bottom. Momentum engages the three-story space with five units that are suspended at different levels beginning with the third story and curving down into the first story space. At each new level a fabric panel is added to create a gathering momentum of shapes. Each unit is comprised of several graduated colors reminiscent of vibrant kite-like structures, which look as if they are flying up and away.
