Ambient Landscape

Ambient Landscape is a collection of seven landscape tapestries which were originally commissioned for the Kiva room at Scottsdale City Hall. Artist Janet Taylor, a professional weaver, makes a daily connection between thousands of strands of yarn. The landscape imagery in the tapestries is "not from any one place in Arizona, but bits and pieces of imagery, composites of what you see when you drive, when you travel," according to the artist. Ms. Taylor brought together artists of various talents to collaborate on the work, thus reviving the tradition of the Medieval "atelier"--a guild whose members shared an interest in a particular trade.

The tapestries are currently "resting" in vault storage after being on display for twelve years.
