Where the Wild Things Are: Maurice Sendak in His Own Words and Pictures Free to the public! Where the Wild Things Are will give kids of all ages a cool place this summer to have some fun and learn more about beloved and celebrated artist and writer Maurice Sendak. The free exhibit provides hands-on interaction with Sendak’s stories and characters. Visitors can dress up like a “wild thing” and dance in the wild forest, cook in the “Night Kitchen,” read on Rosie’s Stoop, slide into a bowl of chicken soup, and create their own masterpieces while listening to classical music. Educational offerings will include: storytime, crafts, games, movies, drawing workshops with local illustrators and drawing and coloring contests. This exhibition is organized by The Breman Museum, Atlanta, GA. Many of the images in this exhibition are facsimiles taken from the original art in the Maurice Sendak Archive housed at the Rosenbach Museum and Library, Philadelphia, PA. This exhibition is presented by Scottsdale Public Art and the Scottsdale Civic Center Library, with free workshops and activities throughout the summer. The exhibition will be on view in TheGallery@theLibrary, the 2,500 square foot gallery space in the Scottsdale Civic Center Library.
